Torrent Description
What do you get if you put together a bassplayer who loves industrial rock,a drummer which is a fan of Tom Waits and weird stuff, a sixstringbender who likes to listen to Smashing Pumpkins and Janes Addiction plus a vocalist that is a sucker for tuneful timeless pop?!.....the answer is ACROMA(pronounced uh-crow-muh)from Salt lake city, Utah!rnrnJeremy Stanley-Vocals,Brian Christensen-Guitar,Tom Collins-Bass and Joshua Zirbel-Drums formed Acroma in the late 90?s and had their fresh and guitardriven debut out early May.rnrnAcroma spelled with an H(Achroma) is the medical term for a lack of colour but looking at the music,it sure aint a lack of good songs on this bands first album titled "Orbitals",it contains very strong modern rock with personality and edge.rnrnThe closest sounding bands I come to think about are Live,Stir and Cave in but ACROMA do have their own personal sound too with a fantastic produced bass.rnrnThe album gets better and better everytime I listen to it and who knows by the end of the year, how much I will like "Orbitals"?!,you just have to check ?em out ?coz it opens with the moody "Careless ones" which is a short track but goes over with a beautiful bridge into the tougher "Sunrises down"(a real rocker).rnrn3rd out is my fave "Sweat" that is a guitardriven uptempo story filled with lava energy, then after that brilliant start of the album the rest is a nice mix of melodic modern rock songs such as "Wash away"(a song with Stir feeling) and "On that day"(U2 meets Live)plus more massive riff going rockers like "Motive"(nice groove) and "Orbitals"(the title track is made for the party mix tape).rnrnThis album was a good vitamin cure between all the numetal releases and ordinary modern rock bands that keep coming all the time.rnrnrnrnrnrnI like to start off my reviews with a little paragraph talking about how i got into the band. i dont know why, i just like sharing. perhaps it gives you a better understanding of where im coming from, to get an understanding that all these bands that I listen to and love, I hold very personally and close to my heart. You might think it\'s just taking up space. either way, im gonna do it.rnrnrnrnhow i found out about this band is nothing special, i was flipping through the channels and happed to catch the end of "Wash Away" on music choice. that was enough to tempt me to get the cd, and two days later i picked up the only copy that the menlo park mall (new jersey, bitches!) had.rnrnrnrnlet me say that this band could have been one of the greatest rock and roll bands in history, if ever. they most remind me of bands like tool, a bit of pink floyd and 3 doors down (in my opinion, 3 doors down sucks, but the band is from Utah so the lead singer has the sort of southern rock voice). the band, which consisted of Jeremy Stanley (vox), Brian Christensen (guitar), Tom Collins (bass), and Joshua Zirbel (drums), released this in 2003 on Universal Records. then, they toured. then, after a few months of no updates on their website, bad news. Josh and Tom had left Acroma, and the remaining two members were considering calling it quits. then, their website dissappeared completely, including any link to the band at their label\'s website. im assuming that they\'re no more, which is a shame, because if they were to create more music like the songs found on this cd, two words: world domination.rnrnrnrnalthough all the songs on this cd are really good, there are a couple that, to me, stand out.rnrnrnrnWash Away (Some Desert Night) - this song has a real nice guitar line, and does a good job of combining electric lead with an acoustic in the background, they each complement each other very well. the lyrics are basically about a girl (perhaps a girl Jeremy knew) who cant stand her life anymore and wants to get the hell out of the ****-hole town she\'s been living in for so long. the lyrics also tell us the reason is because she was a hooker, "selling her body, her soul, for the allmighty dollar". this is more of the rock side of Acroma, and it\'s one of my favorite tracks on the album.rnrnrnrnDon\'t Think Just Move - more of the progressive side of Acroma. this is a slow song at first, with a lot of computer sounding effects and an echo sounding guitar riff. the vocals flow nicely through the song. it does get heavy at the end though, with Jeremy singing "What makes us behave in this way?/Dont Think, Just Move". ends very nicely, a good example of their progressive, toolish sounding side.rnrnrnrnMotive - if there was a song to mosh to on this album, this is it. the bass starts off the song leading into a very mosh-able riff. the song slows down a bit after the second chorus for about a minute and a half, and then builds back up into the hard rock sound that we started with. i would have loved to see this live.rnrnrnrnBig Karma Now - this song is more along the lines of motive, except it\'s more of a song to two step to rather than mosh. a catchy guitar riff leads us through the verse and up to the chorus.rnrnrnrnTrack 9 - the track that doesnt exist, it\'s not listed anywhere on the cd, the tracklisting simply goes from 8 to 10. this track is either a live acoustic track that they recorded, or they put the crowd sounds in after they were done recording it. the song is short, only about two minutes, but it\'s a very good sounding two minutes. Jeremy\'s vox really stand out on this track, considering that it\'s just him and the acoustic. good chill out song.rnrnrnrnin the end, these thirteen tracks could have been the start of something great, but who knows? perhaps the band put all they had into this album, and there\'s no way they could have topped this. or maybe this was just a taste of the music that they could create. i guess we\'ll never know that one for sure, but in any case, give this cd a try. maybe you\'ll find what i found in their music, maybe you wont. either way, it\'s worth a listen.rnrnrnrnTalented Band!, August 30, 2006rnrnReviewer: Stinkfist (New Jersey) - See all my reviewsrnrnI\'m a big fan of Tool and APC. If you like Tool and APC you\'ll mostly like Acroma. Actually, if you enjoy quality music you\'ll enjoy this CD. The singer sounds like a young Maynard. The music has great progression. I just don\'t understand why this band never took off. This band is much better than most of the crap they play on the radio. The more I listen to it, the better it gets. I heard the band broke up. I hope they get back together and make some more great music. Support the band and buy this album. I highly recommend it!rnrnrnrnrnrnGreat High-Energy, Straight-Ahead Rock \'n\' Roll!, June 3, 2006rnrnReviewer: rockchick "lw329" (Ogden, UT United States) - See all my reviewsrnrnI can\'t understand how Acroma never made it big...they had everything: talent, creative songwriting, and a pure rock \'n\' roll sound that you\'d think would have the same mass-appeal as Creed or 3 Doors Down (although Acroma\'s music is much better). I bought "Orbitals" on the strength of hearing one song ("Sun Rises Down" on a local college radio station only ONE TIME...something I\'ve never done before. And I don\'t regret the impulse-buy for a second...every track is supremely listenable, and several are excellent. How ironic that this band is from my home state, that they got a contract with a major label (Republic/Universal), and yet I never heard of them until after their break-up (and only realized they were local after I bought the CD & read the liner notes)! Admittedly, I don\'t go to clubs very often, but I do listen to local radio stations a LOT -- you\'d think they\'d have been proud of these talented home-town boys & given them some serious airplay (after all, they\'re far better than fellow Utah band The Used, in my opinion). All I can think is that Acroma were poorly-managed & even more poorly promoted. I guess all we can hope for is that they might reunite someday & give it another go. For now, I strongly recommend you buy "Orbitals" & enjoy!rnrnrnrnrnrnTracksrnrnrnrn1. Careless Ones (Intro)rnrn2. Sun Rises Downrnrn3. Sweatrnrn4. Wash Away (Some Desert Night)rnrn5.
