rnrnJekyll + Hyde (2006)rn rnhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425150/rn rnRated R rnrn1 hr 35 mins rnrnHorror/Thrillerrn rnrnSynopsis:rnrnThis contemporized update of Robert Louis Stevenson\'s classic tale of duality stars Bryan Fisher (SURVIVING CHRISTMAS) as a geeky med student who experiments with chemistry in an attempt to find a serum to improve his self-esteem. He is more successful than he ever thought possible, but the side effects are increasingly disturbing.rn rnrn Review: rnrn Jay Jekyll is a medical student who, together with arnfriend called Mary, is trying to create a drug whichrnis supposed to boost the self-confidence level inrnpeople. They use themselves as guinea pigs and evenrnthough Mary ends up dying, Jay keeps experimenting, rndetermined to find the perfect combination. It doesn\'trntake too long before the drug starts working, but thernside-effects are more terrifying than Jay could everrnhave imagined.rnrnrnYou\'re probably thinking the same thing that I wasrnthinking when I first heard of this movie; "ugh, notrnanother Jekyll & Hyde movie! haven\'t we seen enoughrnall ready?". Well Jekyll + Hyde isn\'t the classicrnstory that you\'ve had to sit through over and overrnagain. It\'s a fresh and original twist on the conceptrnwhich really took me by surprise.rnrnHad this been called "Teen Jekyll" or something likernthat, this would probably have felt very cheesy, butrnthe fact that this is a teen thriller didn\'t reallyrnbother me that much. The story mainly revolves aroundrnJay Jekyll, a medical student who wants to create thernperfect drug. Why you ask. Well, he\'s sick of beingrna dorky guy who always has to stand in the back. Itrndoesn\'t help that he\'s madly in love with a girl whornhe doesn\'t dare to make a move on. rnrnSo anyway, he starts taking the new and improved rndrug and quickly gets hooked on it. The drug turns rnhim into Hyde, a sex-crazed hunk who can get any rngirl that he wants. There\'s only one side-effect; rnthe drug also turns him into a brutal serial killer.rnSure, this concept might sound cheesy but it reallyrndoes work. I was really surprised to see myselfrnenjoying this movie as much as I did.rnrnThe acting is for most part very good and I was morernthan happy to see Bree Turner (who I\'m really startingrnto like) in a starring role. Brian Fisher might notrnhave been my first choice for the part of Jay Jekyllrnsince he never does look very dorky (he looks likerna jock all the way through), but he does the best herncan. The directing is pretty impressive as well withrnsome original angles and some really creepy scenes.rnrnI was really quite impressed by this fresh take onrnthe old Jekyll/Hyde concept. There\'s only so muchrnyou can do with this story and I think that theyrnmilked the last couple of drops from it. Sadly,rnI don\'t think that many people will be checking thisrnout due to the title, but do give it a shot if yournare able to enjoy teen horror thrillers. You might bernjust as surprised as I was.rnrnrnNot too gory, we get some brains pulled out, a rnscalpel in ones eye and some more.rnrnrnI loved this soundtrack. The opera/orchestra musicrnwas just magnificent and really created a greatrnatmosphere. The pop and rock music was competentrnand catchy and it all worked very well together. rnrnrnEven though I\'m sick of the Jekyll and Hyde conceptrnI still found myself really enjoying this teen thriller.rnIt\'s got just enough originality in it to feel likernan almost brand new movie so don\'t be put off by therntitle because it\'s got very little in common with thernoriginal concept. Give it a shot, it really is worth it.rnrnrnrnrnCodec: XvidrnSize: 698MBrnRuntime: 01:29:20 rnResolution: 688x384 (1.79:1)rnBitrate: 969 kb/srnFPS: 23.976rnAudio: English.
